Overview:
Children with developmental disabilities routinely demonstrate targeted skills in isolated activities prior to not being able to perform the same task as well in functional, real-life situations. Primary Researcher Dr. Joseph Donaher hopes to find new ways to bridge the gap between clinical and real world performance in children with hearing and speech disabilities. |
Objectives:
Donaher and his team will begin the study by using a customized version of the ClinicaVR(Classroom) which will emulate the effects of different types of hearing loss and simulate various hearing augmentation technologies. The goal is to provide a simulated environment for teachers, parents and practitioners to better understand the unique challenges children with these developmental disabilities face. |
Donaher hopes to apply both the experience and data gathered in this initial study to further evolve current rehabilitation strategies into more effective rehabilitation tools. |
